Spanish Moss

20091215-SpanishMoss-001

One of the more “iconic” scenes native to Florida, this image was made with a Nikon P5000 point and shoot. The native format of the image sensor is different from the normal 2x3 of a Nikon dslr and thus the results above.

Park Avenue Lights

20101010_ParkAvenueLights_001

The corner of Park Avenue and Canton at 6:30 a.m. today. Had an early meeting with a good friend of mine and shot this before going into Panera’s. Going to try and post a photo a day on the Murder City Photography, blog (The Photographer’s Notebook). I shot this with my Android 2 Google phone and processed with Literoom 3 Beta.

Without a doubt the Murder City Photography staff car is the baddest ride in town.

Vision vs Equipment

Typically I shoot with Nikon professional cameras. The Nikons have performed well for me for over 36 years and I would not trade them for anything. That said, sometimes it is nice to just leave it all behind and travel light. That could mean packing a point and shoot (I have a Nikon P5000) or going ultra-light ie: camera phone. These shots were made with a G2 phone from T-Mobile (Android 2.1).

Sure, post processing was involved, but these are examples of vision over equipment.

I can't count how many times I am asked about the equipment I use and while I will acknowledge good equipment gives me a certain amount of flexibility, it cannot make up for a lack of vision.

I believe many people rely on equipment to provide them with professional images. Sadly without vision, it is just another boring photograph.

I think everyone should leave the heavy metal at home and go for a walk. Anywhere will do. Just go and carry the least capable camera you have at your disposal. Open your eyes and view the world through that little camera. Many times you will experience the most using the least. And it is fun. Go! Do it now and email me your results.
